About My Practice

Welcome to my homeopathic practice. I want to describe to you the ways in which homeopathy works and the type of practice I have.

In my initial consultation, I spend two hours with a patient, getting to know the person and getting all the necessary information to make an appropriate remedy choice. It can be an interesting process for both the patient and myself as we explore the most significant health concerns and also the most important life experiences of the patient.  An essential part of homeopathic thinking is that nothing happens in a vacuum, all things are connected; we do not live in an isolated environment but are always interacting with the environment around us. Therefore, I like to find out about a person's life as well as their health concerns including such things as their passions and dislikes, any anxities, fears and phobias as well as details such as food preferences, favorite weather and what a person may dream about.

With all this information, an appropriate remedy choice can be made. Homeopathy works by finding the most exact remedy possible for a person. This is why such a detailed analysis is made in the initial interview. The most seemingly inconsequential facts about a person can make all the difference, so it is so important to spend the time in this interview to find all the necessary information.

If a wrong remedy is chosen, one that does not fit the person and the disease being experienced, then usually nothing happens. This is one of the facts of homeopathic prescribing. We don't always get the exact remedy the first time. This is why it is important to come back for subsequent interviews, in order to review what has happened after taking a remedy.  In this way, the patient actively participates in the process, helping me understand whether we have chosen the correct remedy and helping clarify important information.  Also, it can happen that after one remedy has worked, another one is needed to deepen the curative process.

I usually see a patient about one month after the initial interview in order to analyze the reaction to the remedy. This interview is shorter, between 30 and 45 minutes, the main focus being to analyze the changes from the initial remedy. The role of the patient here is to inform me of exactly what has happened since the remedy. Changes may occur which have nothing to do with the original condition that inspired the visit in the first place, but which can confirm that the remedy is working. As homeopathy treats the person, not just the disease, the remedy action can be very broad and the correct remedy should lead to an improvement in health on all levels, both physical and emotional.
Follow up interviews may also be at longer periods (6-12 weeks) once a clear remedy action is established. The beautiful thing about homeopathy is that once remedy action is established, the body takes over and should be able to sustain a higher level of health on a permanent basis.  Also, briefer phone call interviews are often done to check in on the remedy action. Sometimes this may occur daily or weekly, depending on the seriousness of the situation.

Initial interviews can sometimes be done on the phone if it is not possible to come to the office. I have patients that live throughout the United States and it is quite possible to maintain a professional relationship over long distances if necessary.
